Standard Deadline
Traditionally (as far as Polish translation industry is concerned), the standard deadline means no more than 6 standard pages (1800 characters with spaces, approximately 250 words) for each day of the deadline, not including the day the order is placed or the day the finished translation is returned to the client. Any translation to be returned on the same day is urgent, regardless of the volume of text.
Urgent Translation
Translation is urgent if there are more than 6 pages per day (not counting the day of ordering and of returning the translation). Urgent translation typically entails higher rates than standard deadlines, as well as a limitation of warranty, since in this case the translation may (but does not need to, and typically does not) exhibit some slight but visible traces of haste or tiredness and proofreading is limited (there is less time for it).
Very Urgent Translation
Very urgent translation occurs when 11 pages per day are exceeded (not counting the day of ordering and of returning the translation). Any translation of more than 6 pages to be returned on the same day it was ordered is a very urgent translation regardless of the volume of text. So is every translation requiring work during night hours (GMT+1) (e.g. ordered in the evening and to be delivered in the morning of the following day), regardless of the volume of the text. Subsequent thresholds of e.g. 16, 21, 26 pages (and so on) do not entail a new mode of urgency but they continue to increase the rates and limitations of warranty. Very urgent translation may (but does not need to) exhibit clearer signs of haste or tiredness of the translator than in the case of urgent translation. The quality of target texts we translate under the very urgent procedure typically exceeds the quality of the average translation done by someone else with a standard deadline; however, our legal warranty does contain appropriate restrictions due to the urgency.
Useful tip: In order to keep your translation costs under control, do not wait until the last moment with your order. As soon as you know you will need the translation, send it to the translator. Make sure this is the final version of the text, verified and prepared for translation.
